Five Valley Sounds is Stroud’s Talking Newspaper, established in 1982, covering Stroud, Stonehouse, Nailsworth, Minchinhampton, Painswick and the surrounding villages. It is a free audio magazine covering local news, what’s on, information about assistive technology plus regional and seasonal features.
The weekly recordings are sent out, free of charge, to blind and partially-sighted people who want to stay in touch with what’s going on in their local community. We are also available online for people who have difficulty reading for whatever reason.
How it works:
Our volunteers read and record articles chosen by the Producer and what’s on from the from the ‘Stroud News & Journal’ and other local and national magazines and publications as well as stories from other sources. We record a new edition weekly on a Wednesday, and copy our recording onto a memory stick and upload this online.
You can listen online via the How to Listen on this website, or on Alexa, or on Alexa via Siri, or via the TalkPhone service. Our Duplicating Team post out the recordings weekly to our visually impaired listeners in a reusable wallet which they return to us post free when they have listened, turning over the address card.
